Display Screen Equipment Assessor

Outline

Display Screen Equipment (DSE) is a device or equipment that has alphanumerical or a graphic display screen. This includes computers, laptops, touch screens and other similar devices. If you use this type of equipment regularly during your working day then you are most likely to be classed as a 'DSE USER'.
There is a set of regulations that aim to protect the health of people who work with DSE called 'The Health and Safety (Display Screen Equipment) Regulations' these were introduced because DSE has become one of the most common kinds of equipment in the workplace. These regulations set out certain duties that are required by the employer to protect employees using DSE equipment. Warrington Borough Council has produced a Standard Operating Procedure for Display Screen Equipment (SOP07) which should be followed to ensure that we are all working safely when using DSE equipment.

Description

During the training the assessors will be shown how to carry out the assessment and how to set up the workstation for the user. They will be made aware of the requirements of the 'Health and Safety (Display Screen Equipment) Regulations' and the duties that WBC has as an employer. The assessors will also be made aware that working at computer workstations or with DSE equipment can be occasionally associated with experiencing aches and pains however this does not mean that DSE work is risky - it isn't. Aches and pains can be avoided if the users follow effective practices, set up their workstations correctly, adjust chairs to ensure back are fully supported and take appropriate breaks of work activity change.
